Ammonium Sulphate can generally be regarded as a suitable supplemental source of nitrogen (N), which can address all Sulphur(S) requirements. Under specific conditions the use of Ammonium Sulphate can result in higher grain yields compared to other N-sources when used as the primary N-source. Less leaching compared to other N-Sources. Under strong alkaline conditions the greater acidifying effect of Ammonium Sulphate can enhance the uptake of other plant nutrients. In Plant Mixtures All N in Ammonium Sulphate is in the ammonium (NH4+) form while most crops prefer a combination of both nitrate (NO3-) and ammonium. Furthermore the conversion of ammonium-N to nitrate-N is usually very slow when band placed. Relatively small amounts of Ammonium Sulphate are incorporated in some granular and liquid plant mixtures to increase the sulphur and ammonium content. Extra ammonium in the plant mixture will accordingly reduce leaching of N in the plant mixture. The application of Ammonium Sulphate as the only source of N in plant mixtures is not recommended. After planting Large quantities of Ammonium Sulphate can be broadcast after planting as the main N-source, either through spreading or Centre Pivot applications. As previously indicated soil incorporation is preferred. The practice of applying up to 100kg Ammonium Sulphate\/ha over maize plant rows directly after planting serves as an insurance against possible leaching losses of N in plant mixtures and an effective way of meeting all crop S requirements. This ratio of N : S closely resembles the requirement of many crops, with the added benefit that the N is applied in both the ammonium and nitrate forms. Similarly AS is mixed with Ammonium Nitrate Solution to provide a liquid product called Ammonium Sulphate Nitrate (ASN) containing 18% N and 2.4% S. Relatively large quantities of either KANAS or ASN may be broadcast or band placed without any toxic effects.\r\n\r\n<strong>In combination with herbicides<\/strong>\r\nThe addition of Ammonium Sulphate to Glyphosate herbicides improved efficiency between 44 and 49% when treated with wetter\/buffers and by 59% when treated with spreaders\/adhesives (Nienaber, H. S. A Grain May 2010). This effect of Ammonium Sulphate should even be more pronounced when the salt content of the water is high.\r\n\r\n<strong>Note:<\/strong>\r\n<strong>Consult a qualified agronomist for locality specific applications. Daar bestaan egter ook spesifieke omstandighede waar ammoniumsulfaat as die hoofbron van N meer voordelig as ander stikstofdraers is.\r\n\r\n<strong>Voor plant uitgestrooi<\/strong>\r\nAmmoniumsulfaat kan in groot hoeveelhede voor plant onder spilpunt-besproeiing uitgestrooi word, veral waar die pH van die grond hoog is en waar groot hoeveelhede plantreste in die grond na die vorige gewas ingewerk is. Plant Grond, 1985, 2(4), 175 -178.[\/caption]\r\n\r\nHo\u00ebr opbrengs weens die gebruik van ammoniumsulfaat, soos in Figuur 1 hierbo aangedui, kan moontlik aan die volgende toegeskryf word:\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li>Die gewasreaksie op die toediening van S weens tekorte aan S in die grond.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>Minder N loging as met ander draers.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\nOnder meer alkaliese toestande kan die groter versurende effek van ammoniumsulfaat ander voedingstowwe meer beskikbaar maak.\r\n\r\n<strong>Gebruik in plantmengsels<\/strong>\r\nAl die N in ammoniumsulfaat is in die ammonium (NH<sub>4<\/sub><sup>+<\/sup>) vorm terwyl die meeste gewasse die beste op \u2018n kombinasie van nitraat (NO<sub>3<\/sub><sup>-<\/sup>) en ammonium reageer. Verder is die omsetting van gebandplaaste ammonium-N na nitraat-N gewoonlik baie stadig. Relatief klein hoeveelhede ammoniumsulfaat word in sommige korrel of vloeibare ammoniumnitraat gebaseerde plantmengsels ingemeng, om die sulfaat en ammonium-inhoud van die produkte te verhoog. \u2018n Klein bietjie ekstra ammonium in die plantmengsel beteken dat minder van die plantmengsel se N dadelik sal loog. Ammoniumsulfaat as die enigste bron van N in plantmengsels wat gebandplaas word, word nie aanbeveel nie.\r\n\r\n<strong>Na plant uitgestrooi of gebandplaas<\/strong>\r\nGroot hoeveelhede ammoniumsulfaat kan breedwerpig na plant as die hoofbron van N uitgestrooi word of deur spilpunte toegedien word, maar moet dan verkieslik ingewerk word. Die praktyk om soveel as 100kg ammoniumsulfaat\/ha direk na plant oor mielie-plantrye uit te strooi word onderskryf aangesien dit as versekering teen moontlike loging van die N in plantmengsels dien en omdat daar op die manier aan alle S behoeftes voldoen kan word. Die bandplasing van ammoniumsulfaat as die hoofbron van N in groot hoeveelhede in die grond, na plant word nie aanbeveel nie.\r\n\r\nMengsels van KAN en ammoniumsulfaat in die verhouding van 75% KAN : 25% ammoniumsulfaat (bemark as KANAS deur party plaaslike kunsmis veskaffers), kombineer voordele van beide produkte en bevat 26.25% N en 6% S. Die verhouding van N:S stem nou ooreen met die behoeftes van baie gewasse met die bykomende voordeel dat N beide as nitraat en ammonium voorsien word. \u2018n Vloeibare produk wat bestaan uit \u2018n mengsel van ammoniumnitraat oplossing en ammoniumsulfaat bevat 18% N en 2.4% S en staan bekend as ammoniumsulfaatnitraat(ASN). Relatief groot hoeveelhede KANAS of ASN kan breedwerpig of gebandplaas na plant toegedien word.\r\n\r\n<strong>Saam met onkruiddoders<\/strong>\r\nDie byvoeging van Ammoniumsulfaat het Glifosaat onkruiddoder effektiwiteit met 44 tot 49% verbeter wanneer met benatter\/buffers behandel is en 59% wanneer met verspreider\/kleefmiddels behandel is (Nienaber, H. S. A Graan Mei 2010). Dit kan verwag word dat die effek van ammoniumsulfaat nog groter sal wees as daar baie soute in die water is.\r\n\r\n<strong>Let Wel: Raadpleeg \u2018n gekwalifiseerde landboukundige vir meer lokaliteit spesifieke toepassings.
